At LTAA, we are passionate about preserving heritage while embracing modern living. Our recent project in Ashfield exemplifies this ethos, as we revitalized a beautiful period cottage located in a heritage conservation area.
Project Overview
Our journey began with a previous client who had acquired a stunning period cottage in Ashfield. Years of neglect and various additions had obscured the home’s original charm. Recognizing the need for restoration and modernization, our client entrusted us with the task of breathing new life into this historic gem.
Design Vision
Our proposal centred on preserving the integrity of the existing cottage while seamlessly integrating modern elements to enhance functionality and aesthetics. Key aspects of the design included:
Modern Rear Addition: We envisioned a rear addition that would harmonise with the heritage structure, providing additional space for bedrooms, living areas, and bathrooms.
Striking Juxtaposition: The rear addition introduced modern internal finishes, including polished concrete floors and high raked ceilings, creating a striking contrast with the traditional elements of the cottage.
Contemporary Aesthetics: External cladding featuring Colorbond architectural panels offered a contemporary look while respecting the heritage context.
Indoor-Outdoor Integration
A focal point of the design was the connection between indoors and outdoors:
Seamless Extension: The new rear addition extended to a spacious deck, overlooking a beautiful pool at the same level.
Enhanced Livability: This integration of indoor and outdoor spaces enhances the home’s livability, allowing for effortless entertaining and relaxation.
Family-Friendly Expansion
To accommodate the needs of a growing family, the design incorporated an additional level above the ground floor addition. This expansion provided:
Additional Bedrooms: Two extra bedrooms and a dedicated area for children to hang out, ensuring ample space for everyone to thrive.
